Wonderful!

Grindelwald | The Winter-Wonderland-Dream-Come-True

We love Grindelwald! Therefore, it is not surprising that we keep on coming here again and again.

In a previous article about the hike to the Männlichen summit , we already wrote a hymn of praise about Grindelwald.

Descriptions like “the absolute essence of alpine Swiss charm”, “unique mountain landscapes” and “enormous range of activities” give you a very accurate impression of our personal assessment of Grindelwald.

So, full of anticipation, we looked forward to our first excursion to Grindelwald in the winter. Would it be like the alpine snow-covered winter wonderland that we were wishing for, that we even expected? The answer is: YES!!!

Up to the Busslap with snow chains

It was even better than expected! The view became more beautiful as we climbed higher on bus 126 from Grindelwald train station to Bussalp.

The yellow bus made its way up the partly narrow, winding and sloping road with the necessary assistance of the strong snow chains and the years of practise. With ease!

We stared spellbound out of the window and filmed the magnificent view, too fascinated to even think of being afraid. Those who already know our articles, also know that I am not a big fan of steep mountain roads, especially in winter!

Nevertheless, the panorama completely captivated us – you can get an impression of it in our video! After about 25 minutes, we arrived safely on the Bussalp, directly at the mountain restaurant Bussalp.

Too good to be true | Winter hiking in Grindelwald

What followed now were blissful moments of snow pleasure, comforting warm childhood memories and pure happiness. Too good to be true!

Remember, we had not yet even started our winter hike in Grindelwald. We merely got off the bus!

What gives us these wonderful moments of happiness in wintery-snowy landscapes?

The pure, stunningly beautiful nature?

The alpine mountain panorama with its countless snow-covered hills?

The crunch of deep snow under your sturdy hiking boots?

The warm rays of the sun in the cold, crystal-clear winter landscape?

Probably a combination of all. At this point, I can only repeat myself: It was too good to be true!

Sunny Bussalp & Tobogganing

By the way, on Bussalp (1,800 a.s.l.) the sun shines in the morning, compared to some other areas in Grindelwald. Subsequently, it is not surprising that besides many enthusiastic winter hikers, there are also many “sledders” on the way.

We will try “Schlitteln”, as the Swiss call it, two days later on the First in Grindelwald. An unbelievably-great winter-fun-experience that you will hear about!

The Bussalp is thus the “sun-drenched paradise for the non-skier and mecca for the tobogganing fan”, according to grindelwaldbus.ch. We absolutely agree!

I must ask at this point in time: Have you ever, I mean EVER, heard the word “tobogganing” before???

Personally, I did not and subsequently had to look it up, how on earth I should pronounce this word. Here is the answer: tuh·bo·guh·nuhng. It doesn´t help, does it? It definitely didn´t help me, hahaha!

Thanks God for the loudspeaker-pronunciation-feature on google .

A dream in white | No, not a wedding dress!

Surrounded by a true “dream in white”, we hiked leisurely down the well-maintained winter trails into the valley. Winter hiking in Grindelwald just as you would hope.

Past countless snow-covered wooden huts, through snowy forests, with a view of the magnificent Eiger mountain. What more could you want?

After a good two and a half hours, the winter dream is unfortunately over.

A thought at this point: plan more time and energy and walk the route the other way around. This will strengthen your fitness and prolong the winter wonderland experience.

For us, there is no doubt: We will be back again soon!
