Outline:
If you could only do one hike in Switzerland, this epic ridge hike at Brienzer Rothorn should be at the top of your list. First you ride up a vintage mountain railway to a viewpoint at 2350m, with amazing panorama views over the bright blue lakes surrounding Interlaken and dozens of peaks in the Bernese Oberland region. The hike heads east following the ridge, making your way up and down peaks, with some of the best views you can get in Switzerland. You’ll get a workout for sure, but every step leads to even more impressive views.
It’s a well-maintained trail and suitable for most experienced hikers and older children, assuming you only go in good weather and follow basic hiking safety guidelines and using extreme caution as you navigate steep slopes and cliff edges. It is much safer for regular hikers than the neighboring Hardergrat trail, which is generally considered one of the most dangerous hikes in the world, where people die almost every year. So if you’re tempted by the Hardergrat, please choose this trail instead.
