The Gersau round trek is a very scenic hike in Canton Schwyz with spectacular views of Lake Lucerne. During this moderate spring hike, we passed by one of Switzerland most famous benches: Märis Bänkli.
The tour starts in the pretty village of Gersau.
The romantic location of Gersau on the southern slope of Rigi mountain and Lake Lucernce is often referred to “Riviera of Central Switzerland”. We were not surprised!
Countless benches invite visitors to sit down, take in the sunshine and enjoy the view – splendid!
From the boat station we hiked up through the village to Oberried. During the first thirty minutes, we were already rewarded with wonderful views of the village and Lake Lucerne.
This being one of our very first hikes of the spring / summer season 2021. We couldn´t have asked for more! A charming village, the deep-blue, crystal-clear lake and snow-capped mountains in the background created a beautiful postcard picture.
The steadily ascending path lead us first on an asphalted mountain road, then up the meadows and finally through the forest to Niederurmi. The ascent got our heartbeats going and we felt alive!
We were glad to back in the game!
In Ausserurmi our efforts were once again rewarded with, you guessed it, panoramic views.
In our opinion, this could have been THE location to place THE BENCH. I mean, look at it!
Then again, if you would place benches in every beautiful corner with panoramic views, then Switzerland would be flooded with benches.
After a short descent we arrived at our next way point, Wissiflue.
Here at a local farm, hikers have the opportunity to enjoy a cold beverage and the presence of some lovely farm animals. The owners opened up a little take away facility and place to come together before moving on to the long-awaited bench.
We watched the happy pigs with sweet curly dark fur winding up in the mud, but skipped the beverage, as we were keen to reach THE BENCH.
A few minutes later we arrived.
Alright, this bench truly has an outstandingly great location!
Subsequently, we were not surprised to find it occupied.
Since the entire trek, however, is blessed with magical views, we didn´t feel the need to linger and instead continued to enjoy the panorama whilst walking.
Just before we arrived back to Gersau, another event made this first hike after the winter and after Covid-19 even more special.
We got to hike along with our “corporate brand” animals, three lovely (and hungry) goats!!
We took a long breath in and a full breath out, today was a TRUE goat day.
