In spring, the picturesque “white trees” will enchant everybody who hikes around the beautiful landscape of the Frick valley. The Cherry Blossom Trail in Gipf-Oberfrick in canton Aargau is an easy and lovely trail, which should not be missed! During the harvest season, you may even nibble directly from marked trees. The Cherry Blossom trail is a beautiful hiking experience for every time of the year.

The Cherry Blossom Trail is one of our local favourites.

This was the third time we hiked it and we just don´t get tired of it! The Cherry Blossom trail is short circular route which starts in the charming village of Gipf-Oberfrick.

The village is characterized by traditional farmhouses, the babbling “Bruggbach” river and, a very well-kept residential area. In line with these, there are plenty of delightful and lovingly-maintained gardens to be found.

Hence, before you even embark on your cherry-blossom-adventure you are already enchanted by the most intense colours and smells of different spring flowers.

The Cherry Blossom Trail, the “Chriesiwäg”…

…itself starts right behind the village and leads you into the world of orchards and fruit plantations.

Eleven information boards complement the family-friendly hiking route. Here you can learn all about cherry growing and other interesting facts about the area.

Alternatively, you can simply follow the trail and enjoy the spring vibes around you.

The “white trees” are very popular for photos.

Hence, the trail can become quite busy during the full bloom, which is called “Vollbluescht”.

This year we also wanted to capture the natural blooming spectacle. Due to the turbulent April weather, however, the full bloom did not occur as expected. Owing to sudden frosts, not all trees started to bloom and some trees even withered already.

We admired the trees anyway and took plenty of pictures from all angles.

Good to know:

Halfway along the trail, a barbecue area invites you to take a break and offers wonderful views over the Frick valley. Shortly after you can choose whether to finish the regular route or extend the experience by an additional four kilometres.

In conclusion, whether in spring (with crazy April weather) or summer (where you can pick cherries directly from the trees), in autumn (with all its vibrant colours) or in winter (peacefully covered in snow), the “Chriesiwäg” is worth a hike at any time of the year!
